Heatmap
The heatmap displays hardware instances of the selected array that is represented as colored tiles, with the color indicating utilization levels.
About this task
See Understanding Performance Management for an overview of Unisphere performance management.
The specific information that is displayed in a heatmap depends on the model of the selected storage system and whether any filters have been applied. Gray tiles denote components that are not in use. A legend displaying the mapping of colors to utilization levels is displayed in the upper right of the screen. To view the utilization percentage range for a color, hover over that color.
If a heatmap has more than two engines, use the carousel indicators to select the engines to display. Each indicator in the carousel displays two engines to a page, for example, Engine 1-2, Engine 2-3. The color of the carousel indicator matches the status color of the contained component with the highest utilization.
A graphic indicating the colors that are used to denote utilization levels is displayed beneath the heatmap.
BE Ports are not displayed in the HeatMap for storage systems running PowerMaxOS 10 (6079). For FE Ports- Protocol Type is also displayed under Port Number.
Steps
- Select the storage system.
- Select .
-
Do one of the following:
- To view utilization information for a hardware instance, hover over the colored tile.
- To open the Heatmap Metrics Chart(s) for the hardware instance (see View Heatmap Metrics Charts), click a colored tile.
- View disk technology information in the
Disks section at the bottom of the heatmap. It displays the number of disks in that hardware instance for each technology type (for example, EFD, SATA, FC).
NOTE: Disk technology information is available only in Diagnostic and Historical modes.
- To view utilization information about disks of that technology type in the hardware instance, hover over a colored tile in the Disks section.
- To open a table with detailed utilization information about disks of a particular technology type, click a colored tile.
You can click Navigate to Analyze, or Navigate to Charts from that window.
- If the array has more than two engines, click the carousel indicators to select the engines to display.
- If the array has more than two engines, hover over a carousel indicator to view the bubbled utilization information about the contained component with the highest utilization.
- To export the heatmap to a PDF or PPTX file that downloads in your browser, click
.
- To create a report that is based on the heatmap, click
. For more information, see
Create performance reports.
- Click
to
Navigate to Charts,
Navigate to Analyze, or
Navigate to Details, depending on availability. For more information, see
Navigate from Heatmap to Analyze or Charts.
- To choose between average and maximum metric values when drawing the heatmap, click the slider.
- To redraw the heatmap for a different time period, select a time period from the drop-down list.
NOTE: To produce a future projection heatmap, you need a minimum of ten days of data.
- Apply a filter. For more information, see Filter heatmaps .
